Amanda is busy carpet cleaning at her new abode. Visited younger brother and went whale watching and although her report was broken up I think she went bungee jumping with her sister.

Chris B. just got back from California having been there since June 7th, saw her son for the first time in 18 months. Puppy was happy to see her after suffering separation anxiety and Malcolm needs a refresher at obedience school.

Bill had a fantastic wedding experience as able to see extended family and friends for the first time in 18 months. Also getting checked up for possible kidney stones.

Debbie T's trailer is in for service after the first use, asking for people to sign up for the social committee to help organize a summer BBQ. Has a velcro dog - only separates with a tear! or tear? 💧

Carolyn is still occupying a quiet house as family still away. Going to the gym 5 - 6 times a week so back is suffering. Claims she's not 18 anymore. Well okay maybe 22?

Garth is spent his last week finishing the floor in Whistler and sitting around in Court.

I watched a video of water bombers saving the area around Okanagan Falls from a wild fire.

Gordon is getting back to the new normal with face to face meetings instead of by zoom.

Dick notes it is now masks optional concerned about all the fires and smoke and hopes we go smokeless in Vancouver.

Chris M. actually worked this week for two days in the Ministry of Education and was disheartened by all the concrete and glass downtown and happy to get back to her garden. This in spite of a broken bamboo stick that caused her to fall over the fence and cut her lip and likely bruising. So gardening can be dangerous.

Marg enjoyed whistler so much last weekend she is going again this weekend. One on one Yoga class is now back to face to face.

Dalbir had two clients buy him lunch after retirement who had never bought lunch before. He of course had schmoozed them with lunches and dinners during his successful career.

Judy had kids and grandkids over for dinner for the first time since covid, emotional toasts to Ralph. Horse rides are over but not for Chiffon who is volunteering at the farm. Golfing and then off to Cultus Lake.

Ron had his people contact my people and  announce that Ron did not drink four pints of beer as reported last week but had a "flight of four different beers." Plums not looking good but lots of zucchini. Will trade Zucchini for beer apparently in flights though not pints.

Debbie S. will be delivering the Steveston Beer over the weekend. Enjoying a pretty normal summer which apparently is going to include the wreck beach stare, oops I mean stairs. Or so she says?😉

Kal took his two seniors to lunch Wednesday as his good deed, was talking about home grown lettuce and something about a product delivered in a zip lock bag. 👨🏽‍🌾 Rollllll another one, just like the other one.

Elena is enjoying her walks, summer and her garden.

Peter avoids gardening accidents by not doing it. Jane looks after the garden. Peter reported that the city of Paradise California which was destroyed by fire 3 or so years ago is reaching out to help Lytton.

Debbie M. had a great week in Penticton and stayed at the Ramada as there were no camping spots left. They were on the ground floor and  met many new people. They stayed at ex husbands place. Nice to remain friends. In local news Debbie has joined the Richmond Dragon Boat Club.

Melinda will be missing the golfing today and will especially miss the nachos. Not great at gold but enjoys hacking away at the ball.

Bobby is putting together some short how to videos having to do with water melon and a juicer. Has been watching a lot of sports and wanted to get into the shark club to watch the European Cup final but instead waited in line. After Italy won the family changed jerseys from red to blue and went to Commercial Drive to enjoy the party.

Sandra and daughter Brittany were enveloped in a police chase of a stabber on 12th after Brittany left work. Sandra was on her way to help with the new townhouse. Heard a pop pop and imagined gunfire but turned out to be bean bags fired at the suspect. Frightening experience.

Mary Lou enjoyed a water front campsite outside of Merritt with the lawn chairs in the water. Kayaking every day in the 38 degree heat.

Pat thanked all who were taking on projects. She has moved away from her clock so we have no warning that it is 8 o'clock. Pat has had both shots of vaccine and is happy about the new Richmond Hospital.

Lynn Pasacreta is a guerrilla gardener, a forest bather and educator of nature. Gardening is good for our lives, our souls and our environment. She is president of the Richmond Garden Club which started in 1957. The club has increased from 80 members to 200 in the last three years. The club has community projects including the containers in Steveston that now contain flowers instead of discarded bottles and cans. There is also a vegetable garden on the top of the cultural centre. There is also the St. Albans Meditation Garden with a nice water feature. Paulik Park is the centre piece of the club and is comprised of 6 acres purchased by the City in 2000. 30 garden beds are currently tended to by 38 volunteers. The Park was the Paulik family farm in the 1930's when the property was first clear cut and the gardens were started and lined with stones that are still there. The park provides a connection to mother earth. The volunteers work at least four hours a week. They receive 1000 bulbs from the city and have increased from 12 to 38 volunteers. The club adopted the gardens in 2008. Lynn described the theme of the Gardens as arts and crafts where there are long views and the different seasons feature different flowers and plants. The forest area was planted by Mr. Paulik and is made up of different species of trees. The park is also intended to create habitats for wild life and there are 18 bird houses in the park. The logs are stacked for insects and there is a butterfly garden. There are newly planted native trees and shrubs. There are 40 species of birds and the park is a stop over for migratory birds. Richmond is the only City that allows volunteers to look after city parks. One can heal from working in the garden and some Drs. now prescribe gardening for mental health. There are waiting lists for community gardens . Lynn can feel the relief by just walking into the gardens. There is now ecopsychology that shows how immersion in nature can benefit your health. 120 minutes for a dose of nature or you could suffer from nature deficit disorder. Nature is an antidote for stress, lowers blood pressure increases self esteem, reduce anxiety and improves mood. Lynn showed photos of the park through the various seasons. She mentioned that the high schools have green ambassadors who concern themselves with addressing climate change. Individually we can garden, grow vegetables and eat locally. As a forest bather you can walk through the forest of Sitkas, cedars, douglas fir, hemlock and many deciduous trees. The detritus from the tress contains turpenes which are the hydrocarbons found in the oils of plants and trees. It makes you feel good and improves mood because it is a compound in cannabis. "I took a walk in the forest and came out taller than the trees."

Hope you didn't miss it but July 13th was National French Fry Day!!!!!! Bet you can't eat just one???? And I know you are interested so here goes.

National French Fry Day on July 13 is a great opportunity to take the time to sample some golden-brown potato slices. But did you know that the origin of French fries is more than likely not French at all? Potatoes were being fried in Belgium way before the French, but more on that later. When it comes to the tastiest French fries on the planet, everyone seems to have an opinion. It’s a time-consuming decision to find your favorite because no two restaurants seem to have the same recipe. French fries do have a nutritional stigma attached to them, however, due to high-caloric and fat content. But it’s tough to say no to a hot batch — even the ones at the bottom of the bag.

The term ‘French fries’ refers to deep-fried slices or strips of potatoes. While the precise origins are unknown, the item hit the culinary scene sometime in the 1700s. It had taken an entire century for potatoes to become widely accepted as food, arriving in Europe in the 1600s.

Like most iconic foods, the French fry has an interesting folk story about how it was created. Belgians call dibs on the origins of French fries, claiming it to be an invention of their people. According to a manuscript by Joseph Gerard, the residents of the Meuse Valley, located near Dinant in Belgium, consumed a lot of fish, since they lived near the river. During winters, when the rivers would freeze and fishing would become difficult, the idea to slice potatoes like fish fillets and fry them in hot fat was born.

But all credit does go to the French for popularizing frying foods and selling them in public on street carts called ‘frites,’ in the mid-1700s. Eventually, potatoes were cut in all sorts of shapes and fried. As to how French fries arrived in America, there are two versions of that story, too. The more popular and accepted fact is that Thomas Jefferson brought the dish to the U.S.A. While serving time as an ambassador, Jefferson spent a lot of time in France and went on to serve “potatoes served in the French manner” at a White House dinner in 1802.

The other theory is that World War I soldiers who were stationed around Dinant in Belgium took a liking to the local finger food known as ‘pommes frites’ and took the idea back with them. This is when French fries really took off and became mainstream in the U.S.

Who didn't want to add this to their store of knowledge.

Also turpenes: Terpenes are organic compounds that provide the aroma and flavor in cannabis and a variety of other organisms, including plants. Terpenes are responsible for the aroma and flavors of cannabis and influence its effects by interacting with cannabinoids.

This week let's have some space travel jokes in recognition of Branson's flight into sort of space, or a least weightlessness.

What do moon people do when they get married? They go off on their honeyearth!

I was up all night wondering where the Sun had gone, then it dawned on me.

Three guys are talking, the first guy says "I'm an astronaut, so I drive a Saturn."
And the second guy says, "Well, I am a pimp, so I drive a cheap Escort." And the third guy says, "I got you both beat. I'm a proctologist, so I drive a brown Probe."

Three astronauts walk into a bar
On the way in, one of them spots ten dollars on the floor. As he bends down to pick it up, one of the others claims that he saw it first, so it belongs to him. The third then claims that he dropped it earlier, so it must be his.
Whose ten? We have a problem...

Just heard about the astronauts that left earth today. Good choice
