Dalbir makes us mute. However had a super happy dollar as middle brother had had a kidney transplant that did not go well. But on Friday he got a new kidney and the surgery went well.
Mary Lou, had great 5 days in Toronto with Lindsay. It was weird being on the plane but was upgraded to business. The mask requirement was a challenge. It was great to not be on a zoom call for a week.
Dick congrats to apple pickers and polio plus society members. Gave thanks and thoughts to all those who wear masks all the time at work.
Ron hope apples and pears were good. Someone left a black jacket and mask behind. Call Ron if it is yours. Ron went to October fest at a Vancouver brewery for a flight or two. Walking his 7 k per day.
Belinda, is looking forward to 20 for thanksgiving. Mother in Law passed away a year ago unexpectedly and will be missed. There will be a mental health event “Managing Uncertainty,” a free, virtual event on Oct. 14 from 6:30 - 8 p.m. A virtual walk for leukemia will take place on October 23rd .
Gord nothing to do and nowhere to go but is practicing the appropriate pronouns.
Debbie T. enjoyed climbing trees and ladders to pick fruit. She used to steal apples when the owner refused to let the gives have some so a night raid would be planned. Susan thanked Ron for the apple picking day and Glen who picked apples because of her bad arm. Xray have shown a fractured elbow. Gee it's only been, how long? Wears a mask 40 hours a week and appreciated Dick's recognition of the burden.
Amanda all the way from the dark web had a week long flu and bed rest. Finally back at work. Hopes to be with dad on thanksgiving.
Elena wearing pink today because it has been 12 years since her cancer diagnoses.🥳 Her son had wedding the next day after diagnoses. Elena announced the news to her Rotary family and then he family a month later so as not to take away from the wedding glow. Was guest at Dean’s club for a presentation and returned for a random act of kindness to a plate was full of food.
Bobby said Debbie was perfect president for covid. I say not until we see her after she has bulked up. He went to SFU for daughter's graduation and out door ceremony. Celebrating thanksgiving tomorrow. Hopefully turkey will be ready in 4 hours. Micheal definitely not cooking this year. Was a busy weekend at the banquet hall.
Debbie S. picked apples for 6 apple pies and 24 apple tarts. As she has Micheal G's cooking skills her job was to peel and slice the apples. No fingers lost in the process. She is now in a fitness challenge fundraiser for Covenant House. Did a base level bench press, back squat, and dead lift. A dollar is donated for every pound she puts on. Goal - incredible hulk physic, nickname "Arnie." And as she can't help herself from contributing to our community she joined the board of the Richmond Addiction Society board.
Joyce great week busy welcoming Chris M. to retirement of which there is apparently a video which will never be seen. (until a pirated copy is uploaded to our web site).
Marg had a gathering of 17 cousins from Alberta and BC. Don was recycling the Presidential Citation Award from her year as President. She finished last canning of 48 jars of antipasto.
Chris M. insisted to be next. Has had great weeks since retirement. She has been missing speaking French so went out for dinner at the French Table with a friend who speak French. The Owner spoke to them until closing and explained that he made 1,000 jars of black current jam. One jar for Chris and friend.
Kal has Halloween treats fruit loops and honey nut cherios for any kids that come around. Blah Blah Blah.
Peter spent last 10 days at his cabin and enjoyed the colour explosion of leaves. He had a black bear come around their yard which was caught on the yard cam.
Bill asked to stand up. Sam too lazy to come. Bill too lazy to stand up. Blah blah blah.
Bob also apple picking on Saturday from the wine sap tree. He had a flash back of 70s when picking apples for free with white people telling him what to do. His mother in law used to prepare the thanksgiving meal but now everyone takes turns ordering in. He orders turkey dinner from white spot, which is really good. Melinda says thanks.
John back from Hawaii where the buffalo roam and the skies are not cloudy all day.
Garth survived one hour of weights with new trainer. Enjoyed Osoyoos with no rain and golf. Everyone in the office for the first time but on zoom for turkey lunch. Live streaming choir.
Dean during the apple picking last Saturday was at district AG training all day. No chance to pick apples but got a free dinner. Dean is encouraging all four Richmond Clubs to do things together. An example is have four clubs write in the Richmond News about what we have done for the community like a Rotary Corner in the paper. The goal is to let the community know what we do and hopefully attract new members. He is approaching his contact at the paper.

Gordon as a kid in the UK said every school child received an apple from boxes that were delivered filled with Canadian Apples. All agreed likely from Ron’s orchard.
Pat gave congrats all round. Started bowling again. Ten teams showed and they had a lot of fun. Had an encounter with wasp that came through her open door. She swung at it with the fly swatter caught him in air. Did not know where the wasp was gone until she put her hand into a bowl - ouch - the wasp got even.

Foundation goal is achieving good for the world and Debbie M. thanks the Club for doing so much for the Rotary Foundation.
86% of our club donates on a regular basis and almost everyone is a Paul Harris Fellow. The Foundation has supported many projects including, water sanitation, basic education and literacy, disease prevention, environment, maternal and child health and peace.
There is a Polio Plus push for this year and the Gates Foundation is giving 2 – 1 so every donation is double matched. The goal is $150 million. There is a a final push to get the match.
The end polio program started in 1985 and is 99% eradicated now but is still an ongoing project. A Rotarian who commits to a donation of $100 per year will become part of the Polio Plus Society.

Our grants have included ACTS, VTT, the Philippines water project and district grants are storywalk and scholarships,
Our current grant is $15,000 for mediators beyond borders in the development of local peace program skills with a focus on local cultures.
The Foundation is discouraging multiple grant applications from any one club or repeat applications for the same project. Applications must be submitted by the end of July and scholarships no longer qualify.
Our club achieved a Major Donor level as 1 one of 9 clubs.

So during the Spanish Flu Pandemic the Churches were also closed for a time and as part of my history class we are comparing news items from that pandemic to this one. Many of you may recall how three churches in the interior argued in court that Bonnie Henry's closure and restrictions on sizes of congregation was contrary to the Constitutions protection of practice of religion. Well here is a news item from November 1918 where the closure of a church was under protest as well.
