Marg had a great week as best as she could remember. The city fireworks were great. Reported on a former exchange student who now has three children and happened to marry one of her host families sons.
Christine B. came via 7 road and made a dramatic late entrance to the tune of Happy Birthday🎂. Chris is off to the Bahamas tomorrow for a week with daughter Stephanie.
Dalbir had an uneventful week and is hoping for a Kanucks win tonight.
Max had a couple of soccer games for the school that went into the W column.
Chris P's. life is changing at the moment as Donnie had a brain tumour and surgery and it is looking good. But her dad is diagnosed with acute leukemia, and she will be around for him. This means we will not likely see her again until next April. Mitch now has his personal pilots licence and Chris bought him an airplane so he can get his hours to get his commercial licence.
Kal beat covid after 5 days which is a big disappointment as he has returned to the naughty table.
Peter’s granddaughter’s soccer team went undefeated in Richmond and promoted to division 1. Her team of 11 year olds is being scouted. Grandson team not doing as well and he is moving to another team. They practice three nights a week.
Judy had a quiet week after the 3 year old head butted her in the mouth. There was a lot of blood and a huge fat lip. She otherwise had a seniors moment and could not remember what else she was going to report.
Bill is is celebrating Shelly’s month of birthdays. He is also taking Max to his first sushi dinner after Max’s first hockey and baseball games.
Debbie M. caught granddaughter’s illness who was a flamenco dancer on Halloween, I think Debbie was referring to her granddaughter. Another seniors moment as she also couldn't remember what else she was going to say. But has her blood test tomorrow and understandably some apprehension.
Sam will be looking at Halloween all year round because of the great coffee mugs. Said it was good to see Maddie. His hockey lost 5 -1 but he was also the MVP even though the team lost. 🤯
Mary Lou is sorry to miss the foundation dinner as she is off to Toronto for 5 days to visit Lindsay.
Dick had a quiet Halloween and was able to watch the parade for the fallen RCMP Officer. He and Barb are leaving on a cruise for circumnavigating Australia. Dick has paid his dues to the end of the year and announced that this is his last meeting. 😭 The good news is the average age of the club goes way down.
Michael will miss Dick who is often the only reason to turn on Zoom. Halloween was a happening with lots of trick or treat. Also his family is big on fireworks with a box that produces a 40 minute show. Bobby gets more excited with each explosion. The Ghirras have provided mugs for everyone to go paperless. There will be no paper cups here next week so bring your cup. Bobby’s father in law passed away close to his 100th Birthday. A very fine man and Bobby will be off to England for the funeral.
Debbie T. gave a Happy Birthday to Chris B. Debbie was in such a hurry to get to see all of us that she arrived in her slippers. Halloween was fun but she was beat up by the dog because the dog was freaked out by the fireworks. The red serge for the fallen RCMP officer was incredible for such a sad event.
Elena does not think Dick should leave the club. When she joined she asked Dick what committee she should join and Dick said international committee. The committee was all men with white hair. Her son visited from Toronto for his birthday. So she was with her three sons and all the grandchildren. She was invited to a Filipino community meeting to help new immigrants with their challenges.
Jeanette watched the fire works. Her husband is getting used to having her get up early Thursday s for Rotary.
Debbie S. thanked the Ghirras for the mugs and are meeting the challenge of not using cups or bottles at our meetings. This week was a Telus situation as the tv did not work and they went through all the trouble shooting that also did not work. So they called the Telus help line and after a 2 hour wait, redid trouble shooting, unsuccessfully. So a technician will need to have to come on Friday. But now three more devices do not work – booster, laptop and printer. She is heading to the Big Island with Dad and sister. Will be running the Kona half marathon. Like who wouldn’t – Duh! 🏃🏼♀️
Blair pointed out that Dick was retiring as the winner of the Rotary club contest of who had had the most wives or spouses for that matter. His grandson is not getting scouted but playing next weekend as he has recovered from his injury. Blair spent yesterday in the dentist chair for a root canal and is on drugs today. No Kal not those kind of drugs.
Garth thanked Ghirras for the Mugs and always thought Dick would be carried out in a box. Hey look we can still do that. Choir is recording their concert – assuming it is for Remembrance Day.
I said how much the club will miss Dick and I will miss my mentor a lot. Dick deserves a lot of credit for the popularity of the Bulletin. Too bad he didn't hear that as the zoom connection froze. I had a wisdom tooth removed yesterday. Travelling tip – if you want lots of room on your next flight, travel on Halloween. Sandy and I had an extra seat on our way back from Maui and there were some completely empty rows.
Bob had no kids Halloween and has 150 chocolates left. Maybe dessert on Saturday. President elect class on line zoom session later.
Sandra saw Seahawks for the first time since the 80s and no rain. But it was pouring rain on the drive home. Brian decorates the house extensively for Halloween and there was a 10 year old who wondered about the shaking arm in the living room. So Brian gives candy to the kid and thought it was another kid behind him. But it was the father in a gorilla suit and a spider came down and hit the fathers face. A frightening experience for the whole family.
Melinda at Halloween had granddaughters who were a narwhal, bat girl and a pumpkin. The was a large group trick or treating. Rory would say trick or treat, and add, “I want candy”. She believed in eat as you go trick or treating. John and Melinda had left a bowl of goodies outside their door and when they returned it was all gone. It is incredibly sad to lose Dick as a member.
Dick and Barb have left a legacy with this club with the summer BBQ, auction, international committee and the bulletin. Also, a whole lot of other events and committees that do not come to mind at the moment.
