Diana Clarke is from the House of Xhliiyemlaxha, Lax Gibuu (Wolf) Clan of the Gitxsan Nation in Northwestern BC. Diana has spent the last 20 years of her career committed to reconciliation for Indigenous people in BC.

Kathy claims that when she first met our speaker she was shy - Kathy that is! I say Baloney!! Kathy worked with our speaker and had a huge amount of fun with her after Kathy got over her initial shyness. Well she is over the shyness but not our tax form.
Ron is not in Vienna, but Van Dusen and is working 6 - 7 days a week during retirement. We should all be so lucky.
Mary Lou has bought a bike and is meeting grandson Oscar at the cabin.
Peter who grew up in Bella Coola found it unfortunate that our impression of our First Nations has been so affected by the downtown east side because in the smaller communities the First Nations people are self sufficient.
Marg suggested we read White Fragility by Robin Diangelo - and how hard it is to talk about racism. otherwise watching tennis and walking

Gordon, yes the one with the brogue accent, assuming I understood him had his flu shot just before they ran out, and had a nice visit with grand kids who are still growing in spite of covid19.
Debbie M. had her turn delivering lunches to son in law Manuel who is finishing his last 5 days of treatment and heading to two days next. HURRAH!!!!!
Melinda is busy with protein meals of turkey of course. John and Don Dixon painted the new fence, there was a tumble of sorts - injury - cured with pumpkin soup.
Carolyn has been learning on the next level(?), runs with friends otherwise would participate in Walktober.
Sandra's virtual sales meeting is still coming up and my notes seem to say something about three days of rest over the long weekend and going to the bar?? If she denies it I say Baloney!
Pat says she doesn't know how to get rid of "P." Youron, your own with that one! Pat is also back to masked bowling, patterned on that new show the "Masked Singer". Who threw that gutter ball anyway?
Michael celebrated his mom's 76th birthday, put his son into a toddler's bed which he immediately fell out of.
Brian had been camping with cousins and advised that if we perceive someone is struggling they should advise that person to get help. Counselling does help.
Dick has his name in for flu shots and is in a five member bubble until it bubbles over.
Dalbir emphasized Brian's message that sometimes people don't know they need help and there are in organizations that provide avenues to get counselling.
Joyce reported a situation where she wished she had reacted to someone speaking of the prejudicial myth about indigenous people and would like to know how to have that conversation in a non judgmental dialogue. We have all been there Joyce and perhaps guilty of it ourselves.
Susan who also grew up in a small community and among indigenous people wanted us to recognize there are bizarre stereotypes that we need to overcome. Also she disappeared twice and fortunately for us reappeared.
Danny was going to go to Turkey and Greece but instead hiked around Bunson Lake and climbed another mountain. Danny takes his inspiration for climbing mountains from the "Sound of Music" Mother Superior who sings of course, "Climb Every Mountain"
Chris B. like many was moved by this mornings speaker. She commented that you meet people through their eyes and their eyes don't change.

Diana Clarke is the Director of Funding for the First Nation Health Authority. She told us about how reconciliation is pursued through cultural safety and cultural humility. The lower mainland is home to six first nations, Inuit and Metis. The program is to work with the health authorities to install cultural humility and safety into the health system. Safe engagement involves respectful engagement to address the imbalance in the system through humility by acknowledging what we don't know. This is achieved through interactions regarding health, culture and education with those arounds us and interaction with nature. The imposition of colonial institutions and in particular the Indian Act has been the cause of many of the problems. The goal is to hard wire cultural humility and safety into the health services of BC. Governed by the First Nations Health Authority and as declared by all the Health Authorities and 23 different agencies in 2015. The Rights of Indigenous People Act provides for the cultural and traditional rights of 203 individual First Nations in BC.
The need is to address the historical mistreatment in residential schools and elsewhere as well as what had been taught about First Nations in school. It starts with the individual and recognition of their privilege. It is a two way process with healing from the trauma, relationship based, a learning pathway through empathy, self awareness , knowledge and actively share the process with others. One needs to encourage a safe place to have this discussion. Diana herself had to learn about the Metis culture and experience. What you can do is be intentional, open, educate, support and encourage yourself and others about cultural safety and humility. Sam Jaffe
American Actor
Shalom "Sam" Jaffe was an American actor, teacher, musician, and engineer. In 1951, he was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor for his performance in The Asphalt Jungle and appeared in other classic films such as Ben-Hur and The Day the Earth Stood Still. Sam Jaffe the actor passed away on March 24th, 1984. On September 30th 1992 he was reincarnated as Sam Jaffe and became the 31st and youngest president of the Rotary Club of Richmond Sunrise. There was no evidence of Russian interference.
The term brogue (/broʊɡ/ BROHG) generally refers to an Irish accent. Less commonly, it may also refer to certain other regional forms of English, in particular those of Scotland or the English West Country. Did Gordon know his accent is more likely Irish? I say Baloney!
