Susan enjoyed the lovely BBQ with son Ryan as her +1 and she thanks all who made it possible. Ryan is driving Susan to work and then he is off to SFU. The smoke giving Susan a cough.
Dick said it was nice to see that people look the same in person (at the BBQ) as on zoom. Dick was overwhelmed by Larry’s contribution to the BBQ and grateful for the contribution of others.
Sam had a hectic week of getting ready for work and school. His Birthday present to himself was an adult gymnastic class with a goal of being able to do one cartwheel. Not achieved yet but did manage to be very sore from one class. He thought the class would be retired women but turned out to be him and two other, 30 year old guys.
Elena attended the loading of containers for Cuba. It costs $30,000 to ship a container to Cuba now as it cannot go through the States. Her friends 75th birthday was a success as the ball room dancing was fantastic with 150 guests. They first cheered up crowds to make it lively. The event was at Vancouver Golf Club which is not as nice as the Riverside Ballrooms. And she told them so.
Joyce had been with a friend who tested Covid positive so she missed the BBQ and other activities. A reminder to please sign up for S of A and inspirational quotes so it is not same people all the time. Off to a golf tournament today.
Pat did not get her Province this morning and was so upset that the paper did not come she could barely talk about anything else. Except she is in the Teacup Golf Tournament today as well. She has signed up for tennis league which is also tonight. Her grandson got cut from the A1 team and is heartbroken. But her granddaughter made the school volleyball team and is on the honour roll. She needs to study up on who is running in the municipal election. As we all should and vote.
Chris M. is the busiest retired person ever known according to her son. She had lunch with a good friend she had known in the late 60s and had not seen for years. It was like they had never missed a beat in their friendship. He was a super athlete who now needs a hip replacement and triple bypass. Ironically, Chris the non athlete has avoided these health problems. Chris M. reported that the poop analysis shows no parasites in their dogs poop. 💩 Nope no parasites there. Chris is off to a cabin near Kamloops for a week.
Gordon enjoyed the great BBQ and thought that John N. and Larry were the life of the party. Has enjoyed the fabulous three days of coverage of the procession for the Queen as he lived in three of the cities Aberdeen, Edinburgh, and London. He has been glued to the TV to see the funeral procession for the Queen and his old stomping grounds.
Peachy was pleased to be at the BBQ and seeing how close we are and how lucky she feels to be with the people in our club. (We feel lucky to have you too Peachy.) She has met some new faces and friends with small business owners downtown so instead of google ads she will refer to the new friends who refer business to her and network with them.
Blair has had a busy few weeks away and has missed everyone but Kal. Attended this morning knowing Kal was away (JK). His employer bought buildings in Calgary with no air conditioning and the low was 32. He had a birthday and joined the 60 club. So he has started forgetting things much like his previous ages. Got to watch his grandson playing junior B in Chilliwack and bought him a $440 stick. Unfortunately his grandson broke his hand and fortunately not his stick. Grandson now has more time to study.
Sandra’s 90 year old aunt keeps getting the newspaper so she knows what day it is. Was on a flight when Charles and Diana were married and stood in line for 6 hours that went quickly because of conversations with others in line. So 7 hours of standing in line to see the Queen would also go quickly (as of Saturday the wait is now 14 hours). Had a celebration for Riley and Meghan with thanks Don Dixon and Bobby for their help in organizing the celebration. One cousin who was not able to come is a plastic surgeon who has gone to Poland to work on injured soldiers with a team of eight. He specialize in facial surgery. (Thankyou Sandra's Cuzbie!)
Marg said that when she walks into a gather the first things she hears said is “Where’s Don”. Who is more fun? Attended a 70th birthday in Port Moody and left at 4;30 but didn’t arrive until 6:30. Lot’s of traffic. She was sorry to miss the BBQ but a friends mom passed so attended the memorial in Abbotsford. Loves living in Richmond as she is registering Pakistanis Russians and Ukrainians in the literacy program. In one family the parents live in Burnaby and had heard about the program. But the grand parents live in Richmond and the grandmother has lived her whole life just three doors down from Marg. A new friendly neighbour and it took three questions to find this out. Where do you live? What street do you live on? What’s the address? WTF? No Way!
Debbie M. woke up one day this week with a cough and her sister had tested positive. Debbie is doing better and is not covid positive – she is positive about being not positive. She has been busy. She took her granddaughter down to the beach, making her laugh and some ladies stopped and said that’s the cutest boy. She laughed like it was the funniest thing ever. Is going away for two weeks to Spain Portugal and London. Apparently business is coming out of the woodwork. Doesn't that sound appetizing.
Dalbir was in LA where is was over 40 everyday. They drove to Newport and zipped into Long Beach for lunch. Did not sound like a “zip” as every beach had a 2-3 kilometre line of traffic to get to the beach. California is in a drought and have just put in water restrictions. One of the reservoirs is down to only 10% of it’s capacity. They have rolling black outs and people just ignore it. They don’t recycle even though there are strict emission rules.
Bill complained and apologized about a polio case in New York stemming from the H-a-s-i-d-i-c an ultra Jewish sect who tell their followers not to get shots because it is not in the Bible. So there have been cases of polio and small pox. Bill has shaved his head and participated in other activities to raise funds to fight polio.
Carolyn reported that school has been fun for the little one, who attended the first day of preschool happily, but daughter had a little cry. Went to a mid autumn festival and enjoyed a giant dim sum. Sat with two different businessmen who were excited about what they do which she was happy to hear. She passed her interview, her references checked out and now has the job she had before.
Michael said it was nice seeing Larry come out at the BBQ. Larry looked great. Work winding down so he has more time at home with his family. He enjoyed the PNE this year with 550,000 guests down from over 700,000 pre covid. They are registering the little one in pre school at Strong Start. On the other hand his daughter just did her first week of university.
I woke up at 4 this morning to dog poop of our own 💩 from our aging dog. We did not check it for parasites it was on the carpet upstairs. Laid some sod to make our townhouse look better. We have bought a house in Ladner on 10 acres (not just 5 JK) and are putting our townhouse on the market and thanks to Debbie M. for all her help. I went Garthing with golf. Won $5.
Garth warned that he had laid sod and racoons had rolled it up. He is horrified with all the wasted water as people don’t know where the water comes from. He is working on Sunday so he has time to go garthing with me.
Bob reported that Gavin is in last stretch of University and is graduating with a major in finance and Zara is at KPU in first year psychology and liking it. He bought a 400 sq ft unit downtown with no parking and no storage with a Murphy bed and rented it immediately for $3,000 per month. He also bought a 5 acre (note only 5 acre) farm where he is allowed to build two homes and a garage for his cars.
Bobby thanked Carolyn for helping with treasurer job. He watched and enjoyed the tennis. It is good to hear that Federer has retired to make room for the young and upcoming tennis players. Went to a new eye Dr. who discovered that his glasses are too small for his head and causing occasional headaches. So it wasn't work or Michael at all.
Melinda had a great time at BBQ and it was good for John to get out. John laughed at his scruffy beard which is a little whiter than when he was young. Melinda likes it. She thanked the Ghirras for the butter chicken. They took Max to the soccer game and he knows all the players and a football fanatic. She asked anyone in the club if we could call or text him to organize something. He is on a rep team and school team. Please find out his schedule and support him. He does not like sushi. At the football game he had just had a burger and fries and then came back with a big plate of nachos. We need to find accommodation for Max and Melinda has reached out to the other four clubs to see if someone is willing to host. Susan will keep him until January. Even if you can only take him for a month. Did find out that his parents are hosting exchange student from Ecuador who does not speak English or German so the Student wants to go home. Max is from an island with only 2200 people on it. Willow started kindergarten and Rory started day care for an hour with lunch pack. Excited because newest grand baby is due next month. John had the gauze taken off and eye looks good but shut until October 7th as they are waiting for the pathology report. He is like a wounded grizzly bear and his equilibrium is really off.
