Office of Seniors Advocate is looking for volunteers to survey seniors living in assisted living homes in Richmond about their quality of life. Contact Chris B for details.

Sandra says we already have two tables paid for which is infinitely higher than the number of tables paid for last week.

sergeant At Arms Tidbits

Carolyn says when a student uses AI for their essays it is pretty easy tell because no sources are cited. The kids are home Saturday and she enjoyed the sun yesterday.

Larry apologized for not saying hello to everyone but he is having so much pain and although a difficult decision came to rotary after a pain pill. We are happy to see him but not in pain.

Pat has been away and ill with a virus but slowly recovering. They had fabulous seats and a good parking spot at the tennis tournament. Grandson’s hockey team made it to the provincials but lost.

Micheal had a birthday in the family so they rented a limousine for mother in law's birthday. Stanley Park was packed with cars so a two hour drive turned into three. In news from India, in the Punjab 80,000 police officers are looking for leader who is trying to create their own state. A member of Sunrise Rotary is suspected in the plot. Again, no name is mentioned (kaough).

Debbie S. going to the island to pack up her Moms’ stuff (as her Dad has finally agreed) and will look for a site for a memorial bench for her Mom in Sydney. (Just to repeat – in B.C.).

Elena celebration for her birthday next week will be in Las Vegas. No your limit. Play within it. (Or WTF lose your shirt!)

Danny went to Burnaby Lake to take photographs. While setting up his equipment another photographer yelled for help when he slipped and fell into the lake. Danny heard the cry and pulled him up. Another life saved by our intrepid polymath.

Peter’s wife has a rotator cuff issue and went for physio at Georgia and Burrard. He had trouble finding a parking spot and had not been downtown in a long time. Enchanted by a scooter lady in high heels. No dents in the car reported and no traffic ticket.

Bill says scooter ladies are normal in Europe. He was contacted by family he had never met before and decided to meet at Science World during spring break. It was crowded and exhausting. He lost his wallet and thought it had been stolen so all cards were cancelled. A good Samaritan searched face book to find him and returned his wallet with all the money and cards. She refused to take any reward. There are good people in the world.

Garth was touring with the choir in Czech republic when he lost his passport, wallet and back pack. All was returned. I am not sure I can repeat this but he was doing a four way conversation? and a woman turned out to be the daughter of his father’s sister’s daughter. (I think that is a line from Space Balls.)

Kal is walking with a cane and next month there will be no cane. He will have his first dance in years at the gala.

Judy one day long ago in a galaxy far, far away, had put her purse on top of the car and driven off. When she got home fortunately her neighbour had picked up everything. Lesson learned. Warren’s family has had a terrible flu that missed Judy. She took the grandkids to kidopolous. She is now going to take herself to Birch Bay for R & R.

Marg had a great week in Palm Springs and had bought passes for the tennis tournament. She was surprised at the empty seats with the announcement they had record attendance. Ben once lost his wallet woman had traced him down. Don dropped his wallet while bicycling and money was spread everywhere. When he went back it was all still there. Barbara Fitzpatrick, an ex-member phoned Marg. She has been living in independent care but can no longer walked and is in a wheelchair.

Blair will save his lost wallet story for another time. He does not cheer for the Canucks when he is at a Stars/Canucks game in the Dallas owners box. But will cheer the Canucks next time. (Who needs that job anyway.)

Sandra expressed her indignation at the atrocity in Kelowna with young man being harassed. The Go fund me for him is now over $20,000.

Dalbir sadly had three days of funerals. One of them an Irishman, had his on St. Patrick’s Day. During the service he received a text that a friend of 52 had died. The friend had not been feeling well and refused the suggestion he go to the hospital. Moral of the story, go to the hospital.

Bob had a family friend camping who for an unknown reason poured gas on the campfire and is now in the hospital with 3^rd degree burns. Bob went to the Bajher Restaurant which has created a décor as an old bookies place from India in 1908.

Gordon remembers 1908 when he lost his wallet so now he has all credit cards in a zippered pouch in his wallet which is in a zippered pocket. However his crown jewels apparently are not always zipped up.

Bobby was at the Canuck game in a premium box and toured the different restaurants and amazing furnishing as part of a sales pitch. The prices are crazy. He is now away for a week in Toronto to visit his daughter.

Chris M. had a friend pass away in Williams Lake. As Chris was getting on the plane she was being asked about electronics by a young woman that looked 16 but turned out to be the pilot. (Gender bias and ageism - not all millennials think they're entitled ). She will be home alone this weekend as everyone else is going out. Menu - lobster dinner on her own. Chris dreamt she had moved in with Carolyn but her, Carolyn’s that is, parents moved in. So Chris had to move home and she had missed her cat anyway. (This dream may be related to Carolyn’s disclosure last week about all the men from around the world in Richmond for an adult hockey tournament – French and Italian please or perhaps a swarthy Spaniard!)

Max survived golf with John and Garth and saw for the first time a lacrosse game. He is off to RYLA in Gibson’s for the weekend.

I enjoyed golfing with Max except for the salty language he had learned from the ladies who he has been golfing with. 🤬I showed off the cartouches on my Egyptian golf shirt.

Debbie M. stayed home because she sounds awful but able to spend a lot of time with granddaughter in the gym where she takes off running on arrival. Also took her down to the beach for fish and chips. Went to a wine tasting with matching food at Victor but apparently no hookers and blow. (Was this Saturday night?)

Susan was just too tired and not ready to drive to be with us this morning but we are still happy to see her on zoom. Her Birthday week has been fabulous with a great brunch with family and her brother. She went to the chop steak house with her mom. As a burn victim her self she empathizes with Bob’s friend even though there are many procedures they can do now for burn victims it is still very serious.

Chris B. claims it was raining in Southern California. She loves being with her neighbours from her childhood as she enjoyed a four hour happy hour. She enjoyed the Baht mitzvah she went to California for and appreciated Bill’s advice. There was too much wind and rain to go to the beach.

Melinda says John and Heath are home now and the grand girls greeted him at the airport with hand made signs and hugged him. John had injured hip in Hawaii but continued to play golf in Australia. He fell three times. So between his hip and her shoulder they make a pair.

Our guide told us the story of Isis and Osiris which is basically the story for ChatGpt below except that after Isis puts Osiris back together she cannot find his private parts that had been eaten by a fish in the Nile. Osiris and Isis spend the night together after he is put back together and she miraculously becomes pregnant with their son Horus. Sound familiar?

In ancient Egyptian mythology, Isis and Osiris were a divine couple and siblings, who played a significant role in the Egyptian belief system. Osiris was the god of fertility and the afterlife, while his sister Isis was the goddess of magic and fertility. Their story is one of love, betrayal, and resurrection.

Osiris was a great king and ruler of Egypt, but his brother, Set, was jealous of his power and sought to overthrow him. Set tricked Osiris into getting into a coffin, which he then sealed and threw into the Nile river. Isis, who was deeply in love with her brother and husband, searched for his body and eventually found it in Byblos, where it had washed up on shore.

Isis brought Osiris back to Egypt, but Set found out and attacked them. In the ensuing battle, Osiris was killed again and his body was cut into pieces and scattered across Egypt. However, Isis, determined to restore her husband to life, collected all the pieces of his body and reassembled them using her magical powers.

Osiris was brought back to life, but he could no longer rule over the living. Instead, he became the god of the underworld, ruling over the dead and offering eternal life to those who were worthy. Isis, meanwhile, became the goddess of motherhood and magic and was worshipped as a protector of women and children.

The story of Isis and Osiris represents the cycle of death and rebirth and the power of love to overcome even death itself.

Isis and Osiris were not only husband and wife, but also brother and sister in Egyptian mythology. They did have a child, a son named Horus, who became one of the most important gods in the Egyptian pantheon. Horus was considered to be the god of the sky and protector of the pharaohs, and he was often depicted as a falcon or a man with a falcon's head. According to the myth, Horus was conceived after Osiris was resurrected by Isis, and he was the avenger of his father's death, ultimately defeating his uncle Set in battle and becoming the rightful king of Egypt.

I am hoping to send you a link to my power point by club runner and that may still happen. So I thought I would write some items I was going to say but time was limited.

Sticking with the gods - there were 42 Egyptian provinces and each province had their own god. So in the temples there would be a depiction of Horus with the local god. So below is a depiction of Horus and Sadek who was a crocodile. Sadek (a real crocodile) lived in a well at this temple. When the Nile was going to be in flood the crocodile, Sadek would rise up in the well. When the corcidile died he/she was mummified and a new crocodile would take its place. There was a museum near this temple filled with mummified crocodiles.

Rameses II was so prevalent in the temples because he ruled Egypt for 67 years. He had 67 wives and over 125 children. He married his daughters as he got older - not to procreate but so they would have the title of Queen.

When the Greeks conquered Egypt the Greek Emperor was considered to be a Pharoah and there are many depictions in the temples of Alexander the Great. The Hieroglyphics on the walls depicted events that occurred at the temples including the count of offerings to the gods that were used by the priests to maintain themselves and the temple. So below is a depiction of the coronation of a Pharoah (possibly Alexander if I remember correctly).

The God with the Ibis head is Toth the master of physical and moral law.

The belief is there are several more kings buried in the Valley of the Kings based on records that have been studied and the search continues. Given that King Tut lived only a short time and was not an important Pharoah our guide believed that all the other tombs probably had much more gold and tributes than Tut. He believes that the workers who dug and decorated the tombs stole the valuables from them, even though steps were taken to keep the location hidden including from the workers.

On the Mediterranean coast of Egypt is a place called Rommel's beach. I asked if that is where the German army under General Rommel landed during WW II. Which it was. For those of you not familiar with that history Rommel was nicknamed the "Desert Fox" because he was a brilliant general who defeated superior British forces in North Africa twice before General Montgomery defeated him. It is not surprising they have not changed the name. Egypt had been a "protectorate" in the British Empire since WW I and the Egyptians were likely treated pretty poorly by the British.

The Stranded Irishman or any avid golfer stranded on a desert island.

One day an Irishman, who had been stranded on a deserted island for over 10 years, saw a speck on the horizon.
He thought to himself, "It's certainly not a ship."
As the speck got closer & closer, he began to rule out even the possibilities of a small boat or a raft.
Suddenly there strode from the surf a figure clad in a black wet suit. Putting aside the scuba tanks & mask, and zipping down the top of the wet suit, there stood a drop-dead gorgeous blonde!
She walked up to the stunned Irishman & said to him, "Tell me, how long has it been since you've had a good cigar?"
"Ten years!" replied the amazed Irishman.
With that, she reached & unzipped a waterproof pocket on the left sleeve of her wet suit & pulled out a fresh package of cigars & a lighter.
He took a cigar, slowly lit it, & took a long drag.
"Faith & begorrah!" said the castaway. "Ah, that is so good! I'd forgotten how great a smoke can be!"
"And how long has it been since you've had a drop of good Bushmill's Irish Whiskey?" asked the blonde.
Trembling, the castaway replied, "Ten years!"
Hearing that, the blonde reached over to her right sleeve, unzipped a pocket there & removed a flask & handed it to him.
He opened the flask & took a long drink.
"'Tis nectar of the gods!" shouted the Irishman. "'Tis truly fantastic!!!"
At this point, the gorgeous blonde started to slowly unzip the long front of her wet suit, right down the middle. She looked at the trembling man & asked, "And how long has it been since you've played around?"
With tears in his eyes, the Irishman fell to his knees and sobbed,

"Jesus, Mary & Joseph! Don't tell me that you've got golf clubs in there too!
