Dalbir presented an external Paul Harris award to Kush Panatch. Congratulations Kush!!
Belinda introduced our speaker Scott Foran, the CEO of "505junk". The company is locally owned and operated and does junk removal and recycling. They started in 2011 and have grown to 7 trucks, soon 8. He told us that the key to their success is having scales on the trucks thus charging by weight rather than volume. The scales enable a transparent pricing model. That way the correct and consistent fees are charged for pickup. After describing the company and operations, Scott posed a simple question - what can be done about hoarding? (an area where they are often involved). When hoarders are discovered it is usually a shock and can be quite a challenge to resolve. There are approximately 100 cases open in Vancouver at any one time and it is suspected that there are up to 50,000 in BC! Typical hoarder profile - single, about 50 yrs old. - Dalbir did an excellent job of describing PH award recipient Kush's community contributions. It is amazing that one individual has the time, the talent and drive to support the community on a continuous basis. Dalbir's thoughts were echoed by several around the room..
- Chris M had another baby skunk story, this solicited the important information that Ron traps skunks (not for a living I understand)....
