Chris B. who was wearing illustrious shoes announced our speaker program and asked for volunteers to redo their classification and/or make suggestions for speakers.
Debbie S is having a fundraiser selling succulents. The proceeds will go to the Ukraine Relief fund. It is scheduled for October 1 at her house, and she will send notice on Clubrunner. The succulents are being donated by friends and family.
Debbie T. was at Whistler for a few days. She completed the tour de cure but missed lunch because of poor signage. She travelled a 100 kilometre route instead of the lunch route. In spite of how weak she felt she did manage to get to the beer first. The tour did so well this year that next year it will be going back to a two day event. Apparently deer left half eaten corn all over the road. Likely they were in a hurry to get to the beer before Debbie. 🍻
Gordon made a huge apology to Max for the naughty table and extended an invitation to him to join a sensible table. Gordon had enjoyed Tweedsmuir trek that is hosted by burns lake club with 5 – 6 days of hiking and canoe trip. The trip that Max had attended on his arrival. (Just to clarify, the naughty table used to be called the Bad Boys Table. But the bad boys were joined by some naughty girls, hence the name change).
Christine M. is going to a ball game tonight where the youngest person, other than Max, is 34. This is an annual family event that Max has been invited to. She had a fabulous Diedre Lintot birthday celebration with champagne and dinner at Carderos. Saturday is Olivia’s wedding shower with 20 people coming. Christine celebrated the first day of school by going to the pitch and putt, ate some appies and then went for lunch.
Pat had not seen a skunk yet and on top of that disappointment had not done much this week other than golfing and dinner at the Keg – which was not a disappointment. 🥩
Peachy took the long weekend easy spending it with a friend’s daughter who came to Canada to attend business school. Peachy took her on a tour including Queen Elizabeth Park and has hopes her son will marry her. (match maker, match maker, make me a match - Hello Dolly)
Sandra went to Whistler Sunday and bicycled in the pouring rain and left late to avoid the traffic which worked. Succulents apparently are part of the ground cover in South Africa.
Marg watching tennis until one in the morning but at least not having to get up at 3 AM. Every Monday before school starts she celebrates retirement by going to Carderos.
Debbie M. busy week working and dragon boating in an extended season. She also rides her paddle board into a little cove False Creek where she saw the resident seal. At that sighting Debbie will stay closer to the edge of the cove because the seal likes to climb on paddle boards (but not crows). Apparently, her Granddaughter likes the crows but no mention of seals. It was her daughter’s birthday so they picked up a dinner at Local and had a picknick at Kits Beach.
Kal reflected on the depressing week of deaths. However, he will be in India for all February as his niece is getting married. 👰🏽♀️She apparently, of all things, is marrying a lawyer, (nooooooooooooo) and a white guy to boot. They currently live in Hyde Park but wanted the wedding in India. They have rented the hotel so there could possibly be room for the whole club. (yessssssssssssssss)!
Bill attended a Jewish ceremony and was a pall bearer and if I understood correctly (doubtful) means he is registered on the grave. Attended the wake afterwards. Also advised that Operation London Bridge was underway, so every reporter was wearing black as the queen was dying and as we know now did die Thursday. 👑
Sam was dressed in black but stressed his dress was unrelated to the Queen. Took Max to the night market on Sunday and ate a lot of Asian food and hopes Max was okay on Sunday as Max had not had Asian food before. Sam signs the contract tomorrow for his company. He will be start school next week as a teacher not a teachee.
Max said he came home from Penticton, enjoyed the night market and his first day of school. Also looking forward to first practice of football (soccer for us North Americans). Games on Saturday.
Chris B. remembers going to either a hockey game or ball game where they played the national anthem on a record player with a skip in the record and beer was 10 cents. The coach was Don Cherry (Judy let Chris know it was hockey). Had lunches out with family and a visit to the island. Let Chris B. how much wine you can give for the Hospital Gala wine wall and she will pick it up.
Judy had a great time in Disneyland came home and rested. However, between the air conditioned rooms and the heat outside she got a cold. Disneyland is not a rest, her son had a full schedule and open until midnight with the stores open until one and they were packed. Back to the hotel at around 1 AM. Home this week then back to LA. For a 4 day cruise. Hopes for better shopping. 👜
Elena had a dress rehearsal for her ball room dancing on the weekend and noticed that some gowns were too long. She hemed a gown for one of the dancers. Elena told her about Rotary and is thinking about joining our Rotary Club. She is a nurse at Richmond Hospital and Elena will invite her to our club. You meet people when you volunteer. She also had fun riding bike this week.
Dick congratulated Melinda on the fabulous job she does but had to correct her. Dick celebrated 55 years of marriage and he and Barb celebrated their 31st anniversary yesterday (I never get tired of that joke).
Bobby spent time with wife in Whistler and also went for a 25k bike ride. For some reason he went out in the rain without pants on looking to buy an inexpensive jacket (You used to be able to get a trench coat at Army/Navy cheap – would go well with the no pants look). Found a cheap jacket for $100 but his wife spent $300 on a jacket and bought her daughter a jacket for $600. It would have been cheaper to keep your pants on and stay at home.
Carolyn finished her Kwantlen contract last week and it felt like exams were finished. Applying for the same job and had to update her resume and be interviewed for the same job. It will be much reduced hours. All retired teacher celebrate non return to school day.
Garth went to Whistler for the first time this summer and had four groups of people stay in the condo who left it a mess. He did have the best meal at the Rim Rock where he sat at the bar and enjoyed talking to the cool bartenders. The choir has started up. He also got a new phone and is golfing today.
I got the pronunciations of Deborah and Debi straitened out for Max’s benefit. Marg is getting more sleep through the US open, even with the late games. Our dog managed to survive his latest brush with death.
Melinda reported Willow has started kindergarten wants to be a paleontologist. She is worried about papa and will marry him. Melinda said that Papa was already married to her and Willow said she will marry the both of them. Excited because the next grand baby is on the way. Friend had her 70th birthday and looks fabulous.
