Last weeks meeting

President Larry away on vacation so President elect Sam stepped in. He conducted his first meeting with enthusiasm and gusto (rang the bell like a veteran!)

Our very own (for now) Georgina P presented on "Co-housing". This was Georgina's last meeting (for a while) as she departs for new adventures in Victoria. She told us all about "West Wind Harbor Co-Housing". Co-Housing is a balance of community and privacy among supportive neighbors. It is based on:

- participatory processes,

- privately owned, complete, strata titled homes,

- extensive common facilities,

- design that facilitates community and ensures privacy,

- resident management with consensus orientation,

- sustainability: environmental, social, economic and cultural.

Mary Lou thanked Georgina for her presentation AND for her 21 years of loyal service to our club. She also credited Georgina for having brought Mary Lou into this Rotary club. We echo both items!!.

- More travel stories this week. Garth, Dalbir and Danny returned from far away places. I wasn't able to hear the details but they were likely really, really good stories. I did hear that at some point in his trip, Danny asked himself "what am I doing here"?

Committee updates

Important information from Auction Chair John:

Important club decision ahead. Should we try an on line bidding system for our auction v the traditional bid sheet system? On September 6th "Givergy" will present their system and on September 13th "Auction Tracker" will present their system. On September 20th we will have an open discussion and club vote. The vote and the discussion will be considered by the auction committee in coming to a final decision on Sept 26th. We want all members to have an opportunity for input. Chris M. and Kal will be making lists of the advantages and disadvantages of the two presenters. I am hoping to make arrangements for the two presenters to bring ipads so not only is there a demonstration but also those who are uncertain as to how it works can try it out.

Then the next Auction Meeting will be September 26th at 6:30 pm at the Life Centre on Cambie street. The meeting will be to finalize the decision on the bidding system and assign volunteer positions.(voluntold maybe?) Look forward to seeing you all there and the usual amazing support our club has always shown for this fundraiser.
