Christmas Social and Foundation Fundraiser December 13th 2020 see email for details. Stay posted as pick up rules may influence the date. But register for the event any way.
The 14th annual Victor Ghirra Toy Drive is December 12th, 2020 with toys to be dropped off at the Riverside Grand Ballroom between 12:00 and 3:00 PM. It will be a drive through and covid safe(as covid friendly is an oxymoron as Gordon pointed out). The toy drive now collects over 40,000 toys and donates them locally and internationally.

Mary Lou is having what trouble remembering what day it is. Hopes to be able to have some get together at Christmas.
Kal is in a walking boot and stairs are all uphill. Thinks he will go on the same diet as Mary Lou's new dog.
Judy reminded us of the North Shore Rescue special on the knowledge network. Ryan West, Laine's husband is shown as apparently as is their baby, that must be a toddler by now. Kai. Judy's a teenage Rotarian, 19 years and counting.
Elena once she exorcised the mute spook advised she is unable to visit family.
Marg will be breaking her own record for most surgeries by a Sunrise Rotarian during a pandemic, as her second carpal tunnel surgery is scheduled for January 2021 and her recent surgery went well.
Sandra celebrated her Aunt's 91st birthday by zoom. Many family members from all over participated showing the advantage of zoom because it was great to see them. Riley is now a teacher at Burnett.
Dick had a capsulotomy and claimed that I could look it up. Apparently you can have a capsulotomy of the foot, wrist, finger and the eye. You can also have it for OCD!!! Who knew???? My bet is Dick had it for his eye and had a cataract removed. I don't think he is OCD. But wash your hands anyway.
Ron has a tiny bubble - girlfriend - good choice and his son.
Joyce had a busy week and enjoys the Thursday morning laughter with the club. Will miss visiting her family in the U.S.
Amanda has cancelled her annual trip to Saskatchewan and instead has decorated her place for Christmas twice. I think this is to avoid having to do it next year.
Brian was thankful for being able to feed his family. Many in his family are having surgery and he is asking for a family rate. If you hear Brian Babbel(ling) it is because he is learning Spanish as he is coaching the Mexican National Curling Team.
Michael is looking forward to the Ghirra Toy drive and decorating his pick up???? I can only go by my notes.
Chris M. had taken a discretionary day to join us but had already dealt with some school issues anyway. Everyday the school is missing teachers and there are no TOCs. Decorating the school for a winter wonderland.
Gordon wished Kal and the Ghirra's the best, noted that Brian is developing hair retraction but Brian said not to worry as it was migrating down his back. Can anyone spell missing link? C - O- L - E!
Pat also hopes to get together at Christmas.
Danny had to find the next best thing to flying so he went to Fly Canada and took a simulated tour of Canada and Iceland. Finally, did get to see the Northern Lights and the work shop at the North Pole. Ho Ho Ho!
Chris B. is going into the schools and described the letters received about outbreaks. No names but confirms the schools are safe. She thinks the restrictions are helping promote independence in the children.
Debbie T. was selected as the Board Vice Chair - congratulations. She reported there have been 40 exposures but no outbreaks. Although she found a mouse in hiding but the mouse did not make it.
Melinda says we should visit the festival of lights in Tsawwassen where Newman's has sponsored a tree. John's now 71 but not celebrating in Palm Springs. 🥧
Yours truly needs pickleball lesson's badly. Record 1 - 7
Dalbir is having cooking lessons on line for team building at work.
Debbie S. reported that her dad is home from the hospital and her daughter has gone to Mount Washington for work and the Christmas lights in Tsawwassen are lovely.

Wesley Bevan is a teacher at Burnett School and the Robotics Team sponsor. It is the only robotics team in Richmond. They won the regionals and made it to the quarter finals in the world robotics championships. Wesley presented the case for a manufacturing training centre at Burnett School that would train students for skilled manufacturing jobs by obtaining computer numerical control milling equipment. It would enhance the training opportunities for the students in CADD and the manufacture of robotic parts. There is a "skills gap" in BC and there is a need for 14,000 skilled labourers to build needed infrastructure. Manufacturing is an essential sector of the Canadian economy. BC manufacturing industry is the third fastest growing in the province and 10% of GDP nationally. STEM education is critical in meeting the skills gap. There are two sources of funding, the school board and community support. The project requires an estimate of $48,000 made up of $33,000 for the mini mill, $10,000 for installation, and $4,000 - $5,000 for tooling. Wes understands this is a large request and Gordon thinks that we may be able to get some matching funds from the District.

Anti mask demonstrations are not new. In 1919 2,000 members of the Anti Mask league of San Francisco met to protest the wearing of masks.
Given the recent upheaval in the election south of the border I thought a couple of quotes from Winston Churchill are worth repeating here. The first is relatively famous, the second is not but equally as apt.

Three ladies are chipping up to the fourth hole at River Hill Golf Club when a naked man wearing a paper bag over his head jumps from the trees and runs across the green. The three ladies stand in awe at the size of his manhood.
The first lady says, 'Well, he's definitely not my husband!'
The second lady, gazes at his manhood and says, 'He's not mine either!!'
After a very considerable inspection, the third lady finally says, 'Hell, he's not even a member of this golf club.' 😵😵!!
