                                    Meanderings

Water bombers on Skaha flying right over head, onto the lake, and off again to go douse several fires that are burning. All too often an experience in the summer now.

                                               SPEAKER

Henry Yao is going to apply to join our club.
We agree that we should use very respectful language, especially when guests and speakers are present.
We continue to do the land acknowledgment, despite varying views on its use.
We should continue to be fun, but mindful of not being hurtful.
We should not talk during a guest speaker’s presentation.
Perhaps we could invite a speaker to help us achieve more awareness.  Let Micheal know if you have ideas.
Our Rotary Club is inclusive and supportive of each other.  This is precious.

Ed Note - other comments were made in addition to the above. The culture of our club is also precious which includes spontaneous comments and laughter. It would be a shame to lose that culture because of one visit and comments from someone who doesn't know us. It would also be a shame to lose that culture because of self censorship. Agreed that sometimes the comments are inappropriate but it is not often, not done with malice, and not necessarily perceived until afterwards. We all need to be cognizant of others feelings before we speak but let's not lose the culture that seems to bring us happily to Thursday morning breakfast.
