Last weeks meeting
Chris M introduced our speaker Gem Munro (and Dr Tanyss Munro) the founders of Amarok Society. There are over 70,000,000 children in the world who are too poor to go to school. Conventional approaches are not working for these ‘bottom hundred million children’ – new approaches are needed. Amarok Society harnesses the power of mothers to effect lasting improvement in some of the poorest slums in the world, in two of the most troubled, violent and dangerous countries in the world: Bangladesh and Pakistan. Amarok Society teaches uneducated mothers how to read and write, and then teaches the mothers to be neighborhood teachers – educating their own and their neighbors’ children every day in their homes, with astonishing result. Amarok Society and Rotary work together. Marg thanked our speaker.

EXERCISES FOR SENIORS
You know how important exercise is, as we grow older. Here are a few suggestions. I start by standing outside behind the house and, with a five-pound potato sack in each hand, extend my arms straight out to my sides and hold them there as long as I can.
After a few weeks, I moved up to 10-pound potato sacks, then 50-pound potato sacks and finally I got to where I could lift a 100-pound potato sack in each hand and hold my arms straight out for more than a full minute!
Next, I started putting a few potatoes IN the sacks, but I would caution you not to overdo it at this level.
