Dick missed last week as Barb had organized something to do with the carpets and moving furniture, so Dick slept in.

Debbie T. was not physically with us this morning because she was getting ready to go riding with her son who wrecked his back so that ride was cancelled. However she is training for the tour de cure and between that and the underwear affair she has raised over $35,00 over ten years. She was sorry about a past Richmond superintendent and principal who passed away from lung cancer.
Chris B. is still in California and coming home tomorrow. It has been too hot to go out in the sun but will be going to a festival in Laguna. Malcolm left with the dog on Monday who was treated like a king on the plane (Mayor not so much). Looking forward to meeting Max.
Amanda picked up Graham in Shuswap who is now working at UPS, nights until he finds something else. Amanda hopes to be back in person at the meetings soon.
Peachy congratulated Elena for organizing a multi cultural festival on Commercial Drive that included songs, dancing, and prizes.
Pat has been dog sitting her grand dog who has been good company. She was sorry to miss Max’s arrival but was needed at her clubs woman golf tournament. She suggests we all start wearing our name tags again to assist the new members and guests.
Joyce has been away away away was gone for a month to look after little grandkids.
Marg had a good week with several fabulous dinners and is off to see tennis. Her sister is the proud patient of a new family doctor in Richmond. Sisters long term friend is the internationally recognized plagiarism expert who Carolyn is so happy to meet.
Larry’s mom is sadly on her death bed, and he is booking a flight to see her. She had a fall and the Drs. have said there is nothing more to be done as she is not responding, and her passing will be a blessing. If that isn’t enough two specialist at the cancer clinic disagree with one saying further radiation and one says not. In two weeks some more of his skull will be removed and left open for 4 – 5 days to see what is going on. Depending they will proceed with further surgery to remove some more of his scalp. They will be harvesting arteries and skin from other parts of his body. Larry all of the club is with you through these challenges.
Kal says Larry will beat it. Has been to a lot of weddings mixed western and Punjabi. Not surprisingly his Criminal Record check came back with a need for Kal to go in for finger prints. Allegedly someone has the same name. Blames Sam.
Sam made no representations about Kal’s CRC. Max is here and gone to Tweedsmuir? park to celebrate and learn about Canada with other exchange students. Tyler our outgoing student has sent a couple of nice notes expressing his gratitude for this opportunity. Tyler is a little nervous but excited. Sam has bought a new car and going to a wedding in Kelowna (for the first time). Marg and Christine will put a calendar of Max’s activities on line so members can start filling it in.
Mary Lou is here in person and enjoyed golfing with Carolyn and Christine. Today she is picking up Oscar to go to Maple Ridge pool which is great for young kids and toddlers. And Grandmas.
Garth had to leave early so sat by himself. He is super busy at work. His landlord is having a barbecue under 8 tents for all their tenants.
I returned from Scotland where I had learned just enough Scottish history to be boring.
Sandra enjoyed Cape Town, in spite of the 21 hours of flying time. She celebrated her daughter in laws and her own birthdays by visiting different wineries many dating from the 17th century with Dutch architecture. It was winter so no leaves on the vines. They travelled on a wine train through a beautiful valley where they pour full glasses of wine. They also drove to the most southern tip of Africa, where you can dive with the orcas and sharks. She was going to participate but was just as happy she didn’t as the water was rough and the group left at 4 Am. The wedding venue was a real farm with chicken geese and donkeys. The family stayed on the farm. The log cabin for the reception was magical. The wedding was outside with a justice of the peace. The ring ceremony was in a Gaelic tradition with the ring being passed around. The wedding ring was family heirloom. The end of trip was a safari to Kruger park staying in tents and landing at an airport with a thatched roof building. The five of them enjoyed a private tour and luxury accommodation with a private chef. They saw all the animals including a lioness and cubs and a walking leopard.

Debbie S thanked Sam for organizing our exchange student. At Whistler a bear came into their back yard sitting up on the hill flipping rocks to eat grubs. Their neighbours had left a door open and it ate all sugar and avocados and spit out the pits. The neightbours came home and scared the bear off but it had done quite a bit of damage. Adorable? 😬sheesh. Debbie otherwise went hiking and bike riding.
Bobby thoughts were with Larry and sometimes a passing is a blessing that still comes with sadness and pain. He had a call from a wedding client who had to cancel because the groom has cancer. His daughter is coming from Toronto on a surprise visit. He is over covid and looking forward to a super busy weekend. This is without Michael who had a problem with arrive Can app and is in 14 day quarantine(or until he can make bail). So, Bobby has to handle everything.
Susan up late for a concert at Minoru senior centre featuring a string quartet. Her Mom wanted to go out after and they stayed out quite late. Disco anyone? Tequila Shots? 🥳
Melinda’s heart goes out to Larry and his Rotary family is here for him. Grand daughter Willow was running down hall and then let out a blood curdling scream. She had skipped into the door and had four stitches to prove it. Fortunately she will be fine. Willow said she might have broken the wall not just the door. John has seen the eye dr. and he will have reconstruction of the eye lid on September 1st with it closed for six weeks. Waiting for a call from the cancer agency to deal with the melanoma. She is off to a wedding in Squamish.
