sergeant At Arms Tidbits
Susan after a double unmute reported that her Mom is home at her apartment now and is improving every day.
Deb T. reports that Drew is walking with a cane and hopes that he will soon be able to take a turn walking the dog. Is still looking for ideas for camping. I suggest the Man Cave at Kal's now that the hot water tank has been returned.
Carolyn is back at the Oval pumping iron. Looking for tattoo ideas for the new guns. Maybe a golf club as apparently the novice golfer is edging the vets.
Joyce is enjoying her ground hog day and the golf when she can.
Bobby made a mush out of an Indian vegetable dish. Suggestion - ask Iqbal I(pad 2) for the name of the cook book he recommended. If that wasn't enough Bobby's credit card expired and Netflix cancelled the subscription. Evicted from house and exiled on Elba. Way to go Napoleon.
Debbie M. had a great day in the sun yesterday.
Kal claims that he has a credit balance in his Rotary Account. There will definitely be a Royal Commission into that suspicious transaction. Carolyn may have to testify.
Chris M. has now arranged on Thursday to be at the school at 6:30 so she can be at our meetings and the rest of us could not be happier. With students coming back to school she has had about 5 Septembers (Ground Hog Day school openings) Good report is that many are leaving love and thankyou notes with kind words to each other and the staff. 😍
Larry is starting early because of having to deal with all the covid related deaths so scheduling services early each morning. 😢
Ron was attacked by the mute spook but managed to report that he is still the managing partner for a group who will be even ahead of him in line to get the vaccination. He is getting in his 10,000 steps walking and the magnolias are in bloom.
Marg had fun teaching literacy to 3 year olds over zoom. She is collecting meals from Seasons in the Park and then delivering them to her 80 something friends as an in restaurant meal is not in the cards this year. Will share the meal over zoom.
Mary Lou is also buying a camper and Kal has once again offered the man cave.
Melinda is really enjoying her 6 month new grand daughter and the sunshine we had on Wednesday.
Dalbir warned Mary Lou that British cars do not tow trailers well. Had a jacket delivered this month that had been ordered in July. He paid the family discount price which apparently was higher then the price listed on the web site. Dalbir got the a certain ethnic discount.
Chris P. went to the Tsawwassen club shredding event and in her excitement almost ran over Brian and Alison. Did she miss, maybe not Brian was not here?????
Dick was happy to see Chris M. and be above ground. Recommends we watch Burdon of Proof.
Judy loved the sunny day Wednesday. Is still waiting for her second vaccine shot. Doing yoga and helping with grandkids. Undergoing shopping withdrawal. Do you get the DTs with that? If so have some red wine!
Sam was glad Debbie M. was guzzling her smoothie because it took the attention away from him and his banana. Sam was 6 months when Bill joined Rotary 27 years ago and Sam was always suspicious it was to avoid him. Bill said Sam was wrong it wasn't just Sam he was avoiding but Sam and Jake. Sam also reported that Justin is one exam away from becoming a certified immigration consultant.
Bill apart from confirming Sam's suspicions also updated us with Jake's status as having passed all of the challenge exams and is now accepted into the Bar in B.C. but has kept his place of employment a secret. Maybe we will hear next week.
Peter was reminded of the old days at the River Club with the endless shots at each other. He is scheduled for cataract surgery February 23rd.
Pat is thankful for the sun we had on Wednesday but it is tax time and insurance renewal and cannot remember her answers from last year.
Chris B. is inimitable but also is living with a puppy who imitates cookie monster as apparently the pup ate one of the lenses from her glasses. Would not want to poop that out. Malcolm would trade in Chris before Puppy. Hmmm! Practicums are going well.
Kathy has come out of retirement to work as Don's legal secretary. My note next is "in the head" ? Maybe meant out of my mind?
Debbie S. agrees that meditation helps, Tsawwassen is hosting coyote mating season this year so keep pets and kids on a leash. If you are jogging in Stanley Park you can get nipped by a coyote.

Ron Davis spoke to us about Adventures in Health Care. His club first started Adventures in Forestry and it was successful for years. When they came up with the idea for Adventures in Health Care with the idea it would interest youth in a career in health care and also encourage them to stay in the Prince George area. He found that Rotary helped open door for him with health care officials and the event started in 2017 with 40 - 50 attendees half of whom were from outside the Prince George area. He underlined that he is not an educator and this program is intended to be a learning experience and not an education. The program was so successful that applications from outside their school district were not accepted. Last year of course was cancelled. He received many emails wondering when it would be rescheduled. This year the program will be on line and 10 - 15 are registering every day and they are up to 220 registrations as of last Thursday. The program has been opened up to the whole province and runs from March 13th - 21st, 2021. There will be 21 self directed quizzes. Apparently students from 4 schools in Richmond have already signed up. He considers this year a stepping stone to returning to a live event next year.
Ron also spoke to us about the criminal record check program. You may have to get finger printed if your birthday is the same day as a known sex offender. The important issue is to be able to verify your identification on line. Also you can share your CRC if it is filed with an organization that shares the same platform as Rotary. If you need details on how to do this please contact to Chris P. Thanks Chris for your efforts in getting our club to fulfill this requirement.

If you are not interested in empathy and forgiveness, you may be more interested in the Yellow Jewel Wasp. The wasp clutches a cockroach and then injects a neurotoxin into the spinal cord of the cockroach immobilizing the back legs. It then injects neurotoxins into the brain of cockroach turning it into zombie. As if this weren't enough the wasp bites off the antenna of the cockroach and uses the stumps like straws to drink the cockroaches blood. The cockroach is then led to a crypt previously built by the wasp which is covered over with debris. The wasp egg eventually hatches and eats the insides of the living cockroach until maturity when it burst out of the cockroach like an alien. However some roaches have an attitude and will stand tall on their legs and take the stance of a fencer with one of their legs. The wasp will lunge at the roach which will bob and weave before returning to it's defensive stance. But the roach will also kick at the wasp often landing squarely on the wasp's head causing the wasp to fly through the air until crashing into the nearest object. The wasp will continue the attack until is has suffered multiple kicks when it will eventually break off the attack. Moral of the story, to avoid becoming a zombie, stay vigilant don't run and aim for the attackers head. We now know where some of the ideas for horror and sci fi movies come from.
