Melinda reminds us to order turkeys as there is a run on them. She is going to Willow’s singalong play today. Christmas will be fun with the children. She might be working next week.
Garth was in Mexico for 10 days a couple of weeks ago, then went to whistler to decorate, so missed the party. He has 6 concerts starting this week.
Micheal had Christmas banquets last week, has put up his Christmas tree, and is looking forward to taking January off and going to India.
Danny is just back from New York and Chicago, for a dental convention, and has finished all his credits so he can renew his licence.
Elena thanks Judy for the party and attended the Victoria Drive party with dancing and entertainment.
Peachy was at a Christmas party last Saturday with lots of dancing.
Chris P. did not tell us the real story she wanted to tell. (something about defecation and the public) She advises we start wearing our name tags for Henry and any new visitors. Luis, the exchange rotary student from 2007 is getting married this Saturday in Mexico and she was invited but can’t go. He came to Whistler last year to get engaged.
Bill says Luis has a gift registry in Spanish, just needed Google translate and a reminder that prices would not be $3000, but 3000 pesos.
Jeannette thanks Danny for flying us over the world. She got her Nexus card application approved after 18 months, and after a 10-minute interview.
John has a great question for our next rotary Trivia game: “who played the bassoon in the band?” Yes, Garth, and John met one of his old schoolmates. He says we should go to Trail Appliances as they are amazing. His dishwasher broke on Tuesday, and a new one will be delivered today.
Dalbir was at a wedding in Seattle, where an incredible judge (one of whose staff was getting married) did the ceremony, with a beautiful view from the juror’s room, and made the work family part of the real family. The Toy Drive on Sunday was great and his niece from England had her eyes opened!
Blair attended the Christmas dinner, and everyone was very nice, his date was Dalbir and he sat with the Jaffes and surprisingly had nothing bad to say about the experience. He attended the Toy Drive on Sunday, and it was heartwarming to see the number of volunteers and toys.
Kal spent his longest half hour at the RCMP station, first time not staying over night. 
He filled out forms and got fingerprints taken for his CR check. Kudos to Judy for sitting at the table with the guys.
Judy, during her trip to Home Depot on Terminal Ave. to get some Christmas things, saw her purse in the trunk but decided she didn’t need it and just took her wallet. Then, while the hatch was closing, she remembered the keys were in the purse and started waving her foot under the trunk, (which usually works but not when the keys are inside). She went back to Home Depot, asked to use the phone, couldn’t remember anyone’s phone number except Lindsey’s, who was teaching. The employee wouldn’t let her use the phone, dialed for her, and she managed to leave a message for Lindsey. The kids scrambled to rescue her, including Warren who went to the wrong Home Depot. So finally, Judy walked home, but couldn’t get into her building where she had another set of keys. Thank goodness, the concierge let her in.
Peter remembers months ago in Kelowna, when Jane wanted to visit a friend in Vernon, took the car and got to Lake Country, then called to see if she had the key fob, which she didn’t. So, Peter advised her to never turn the car off, and she had to leave it running in the hospital parking lot, managed to visit her friend and drive back. We may have noticed that Peter has a gimpy walk, and the surgeon says he has a knee issue in right knee, arthritis on the inside not the outside, and needs an operation, which could be in the spring, but is suggested for September so he doesn’t miss fishing season.
Mary Lou gives thanks for the breakfast and has been inspired to travel more thanks to Danny. She’s been to lots of Christmas parties, and tomorrow is at The Parlour restaurant in Yaletown. She’s been to the Christmas market twice with Oscar and has him again today, but they’ll have ‘down time’.
Susan has been under the weather for two weeks and wasn’t getting better, so she saw the doctor, and she doesn’t have pneumonia and will eventually be better. Good news!
Pat enjoyed the luncheon at Judy’s, and the rotary Christmas dinner was lovely, and says thanks for this morning’s breakfast. She is busy with luncheons and the list is too long to remember, including the Vancouver Symphony’s Tea and Trumpets (not Crumpets as originally reported).
Chris M. is bragging about her daughter, Olivia, who is the Richmond School District consultant for Sustainability and Science and gave an hour presentation to the Board Meeting last night. She made an amazing PowerPoint highlighting all the activities in outdoor education that are happening throughout the district, including a link to a site pinning all the schools in Richmond, where you can click on a school and immediately see what’s happening there in the world of outdoor education, gardening, and projects. Unfortunately, the meeting was on Zoom, and she spent two hours sitting on the floor, not recommended when you’re seven months pregnant.
Joyce thanks us for the Shoebox contributions and the wrapping. She says thanks for breakfast. She was in Whistler last week with a Berna doodle dog and looks forward to lots of fun in the upcoming week.
Larry fully understands Judy’s dilemma as he still doesn’t know how to work his new car, often waving his leg in the parking lot, (not good for stability issues) and finally went back to the dealership this week and was told it ‘Wouldn’t open because it was turned off’. He is going to the surgeon today to discuss whether or not to put the plate in his head. The operation wouldn’t be as bad as the previous one, but there is always the concern for infection, and in the brain. He must decide by this afternoon. Steve finally got the job of his dreams, managing technical safety in B.C., issuing licensing to those companies who need them. There was a Christmas event at the Funeral Home, and Larry was invited, even though he wouldn’t be back to work until Monday. He discovered it was a surprise dinner for him! Every year, Arbor Memorial Canada celebrate one director across the country as best director and this year the award went to Larry! This almost makes up for all the health issues and depression Larry has faced over the past year. Congratulations, Larry!
Gordon also congratulates Larry, thanks Danny for his fantastic presentation, and was reminded of photographic calendars, thinking we could do a calendar for rotary. It could be a fundraiser. Gordon also was locked out of his car, when he did something unusual in his process, forgot to switch the car off, shut the door, and locked it. He had to phone BCAA, who arrived in ½ hour. He phoned from the post office!
Henry thanked Danny for his incredible presentation. He apologized for missing last week, as he had last minute childcare issues. Yesterday, went he went to pick up his 5-year-old daughter, he was told a heartwarming story. The children were outside for a fire drill, and she quickly did the duck and cover, holding both her own head and that of her brother. Henry is reassured that even though he spends a lot of time away from his family, it appears they look out for each other.
Debbie S. had her dishwasher break in the spring, went to Home Depot and washed dishes for 6 months as they went through 3 machines that didn’t work. Home Depot seemed to have lost track of how many of the dishwashers she had and had returned. Finally, they went to Trail Appliances, had it installed the next day, and wondered why they ever went elsewhere.
Bobby was super busy week, was in Whistler for two nights, has his daughter here from Toronto for a month, attended the Richmond epic tourism award, and is thankful for the amazing Toy Drive with many organizations and volunteers. This week they are distributing all the toys. He managed an event in the Surrey Hall for employees, families and children of Centra Windows (500 people for dinner). A hungry Santa came, and the event organizer needed food for him before he could jingle his bells. Santa wanted butter chicken (and got it). This year, the 17th, the Toy Drive reached their goal of 50 000 toys! Wonderful!
Bob was amazed by Danny’s presentation, thought the dinner last week was awesome, and that the breakfast this morning was fabulous. He thinks it’s a good idea for Danny to have a gallery exhibition and thinks it could be a Fly Over Canada format. Bob says Trail Appliances has a warehouse where you can find appliances at a reduced price if there are slight, but invisible, damages. He recognizes that sustainability is an important part of outdoor learning, even in preschool. He is going to the island for the weekend.
