Meeting Rules
Let's all keep each other safe by following the protocols below when attending our morning meetings:
1. Use hand sanitizer upon entering and exiting the meeting
2. Maximum of 3 people per table
3. Maintain physical distancing of 2 meters at all times (including when at the buffet)
4. No singing of O'Canada
5. No passing around of sign up sheets, cards, etc
6. No money will be accepted during Sergeant at Arms
(The Board strongly encourages members to annually e-transfer a minimum of $102/Rotarian to cover S@A contributions for the year)

We have found other on line auction sites that may be more economical in the future. Givergy is prepared to provide an on line only auction service for 10% of the gross. We will explore with them how long this option is available.
Visitors
8 Zoomers, transmission from Costco Parking lot was blocked by the deep state so no Susan this week. However, we had Filipinos and Filipinas join us from the Rotary Club of San Miquel via zoom. Our speaker Josie Ang and Clarita, Roche, Emilie, Erwin, Olivia, Mary, Marissa, Aida, and Ramon. Welcome All!
Sergeant At Arms Tidbits
Gordon welcomed our guests from the Philippines and overstated how much fun we have during Sergeant at Arms. Way too much pressure. Fortunately the fun didn't stop.
Garth reported that his choral conductor has figured out a way they can rehearse and rehearsals will last 45 minutes. He also advised that if you want to listen to some good music you can find it on youtube and recommended what I wrote down as Boce8. If not correct email Garth or you can try Cardi B. Wap for something completely different.
Sandra went biking at Whistler and can no longer keep up with the kids but did win the silver medal in the bean bag tournament. No social distancing at night in the Village.
Michael has been living quietly and enjoying his kids. All the while putting on 15 lbs. Wife says major diet in the fall. Just more of you to love Michael.
Editor - fire in the Okanagan. At least family does not have to fight them any more like the 60's. MAGA - hire a lawyer.
Dalbir was in his office for the first time in six months. A board room for 50? held only ten. Fellow in the office had lost 66 lbs some of which had been generously donated to Michael.
Bill - The strong silent type
Sam had a great trip to Tofino with Justin and friend John. They watched romantic comedies, drank Rose, while surfing? No just checked notes "and drowning while surfing". Nope - John couldn't swim and did not drown. Nor did Justin or Sam! Phew:)
Pat took her grandson out for his tenth birthday.
Kathy hung out with friends and played bridge and golf.
Joyce is being a good niece looking after her aunt post surgery and is excited to see friends.
Dick/Richard or Mr. Wagner, thinks it was great to have an international Rotary meeting today.
Carolyn bought a new set of golf clubs and bag on Facebook Marketplace for $100. Can anyone spell Oligopoly?
Debbie M. is still being attacked by birds but has now added cats to the list of animals that will attack her. Can anyone spell Hitchcock? She has become exclusively a dog person. Maybe you need to change your fragrance.
Chris M. just returned from the 40 degree heat of Osoyoos mixed with ash and smoke, some landing in the pool. Fortunately it did not interfere with wine tasting but good to have some cool rain today back home.
Ron whom we could not hear, spends 3.5 hours in his office and 3.5 hours in his garden each day. Can you spell Zucchini? The room looked full of vines and tubers.
We could not hear Danny either but he had been jogging this morning. He had also gone downtown for dinner and learned that paid parking had not been suspended for Covid. New car missing and sadly towed. Cost him $280 - fine $200 donation to club for new car per wheel $20.
President Debbie went to visit her parents on the island and had dinner in a dining room on Royal Albert china at her sisters. China, silver and table needed dusting after 2 years of non use. Can you spell decadence? But what fun?

We had breakfast with Josie Ang, a past district governor, a service above self award winner and a very accomplished Rotarian. She spoke to us about how Rotary was coping with Covid 19 in the Philippines. The Philippines went into quarantine in March 2020 and then relaxed the rules which lead to the country passing China in terms of number of cases so modified lock down was introduced. She has had some fellow Rotarians pass away from Covid including the past international President. Josie told us about some of the projects that had been achieved this year including funding public transport buses, distributing PPE and disinfectant as well as food to marginalized citizens. They had continued to raise funds and one example was a car raffle. They had an election of their DG by way of mail in ballot. They had their district assembly by zoom with 517 attendees. They held their club inductions on line. Many businesses and jobs are in jeopardy but she said when everything is uncertain anything is possible. Their large zoom meetings demonstrate that the strength of Rotary is in fellowship. At the moment there are no large gatherings allowed and can only go out for necessities during this lock down. There is no travel between provinces or international travel. Not allowed to meet face to face without distancing. They inducted 120 new members in their district as presidents and others bring in their family or friends but have difficulty in retaining members. During their district transfer of the boards they raised $240,000 in pledges. Most of their projects now are joint projects. The video of the Rotary Friendship Exchange of their trip to Canada was well received at the International Conference where District Governors and IR President were inducted in San Diego attended by 1200 delegates. The new President is the first female president and is a Canadian.
Meanderings
Speaking of gender bias, New Zealand was the first country to grant women the vote in 1893. It's Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern is a rock star and it's third female Prime Minister. New Zealand ranks 20th in the world when it comes to inclusion of women in Parliament. The U.S. ranks 80th. Canada in 2019 ranked 61st.
Hurricanes were only given feminine names until 1979. Names are retired after either significant loss of life or financial loss or both. 89 names have been retired. I live with Sandy.

Committee (and other) Updates
An update from the PR Committee
The following definition sums this up in a way that the community can better understand us.
Rotarian: a committed volunteer who is looking to make a deeply meaningful contribution to the community in which one lives, and to the world beyond.
In reviewing this definition from the agenda, the Committee was in agreement that it resonated with them. In discussion, it was apparent that we were all here to make a contribution, however, we each have our own passion (local community, youth, global/international, fundraising for projects). The opportunity that Rotary affords us is that we can choose how we can contribute, how we can have an impact, and how we can make change.
TODAYS CHUCKLE
A football coach walked into the locker room before a big game, looked over to his star player and said, "I'm not supposed to let you play since you failed math, but we really need you in there. So, what I have to do is ask you a math question, and if you get it right, you can play."
The player agreed, so the coach looked into his eyes intently and asked, - "Okay, now concentrate hard and tell me the answer to this: What is two plus two?"
The player thought for a moment and then answered, "4?"
"Did you say 4?!" the coach exclaimed, excited that he had given the right answer.
Suddenly, all the other players on the team began screaming, "Come on coach, give him another chance!"
