You often feel tired not because you have done too much but because you have done too little that creates sparks in your life.

While Debbie S. is away please bring gift certificates to Sandra.

We had a cheque presentation to April, the vice principal at General Currie elementary for their breakfast program.

There was a cheque presented to Harvey Koonar for the Ghirra Toy Drive. He took the opportunity to tell us there are opportunities for volunteers for operation red nose if we are interested. Debbie S. has sent out the details.

Another cheque was presented to Kal Dosanjh of Kids Play. He told us about a young girl raised by her grandmother in their program who finished in the top 10 in a recent spelling bee. The person who agreed to be her coach was also a graduate from Kids Play. Their servcice is about restoring a sense of hope and our support keeps their program going.

The Presidents dinner will be Wednesday June 21st at the Steveston seafood house at 6 PM estimated cost of $58 per head.

Amanda had a lot of fun serving at the Gilmore breakfast. She has been organizing baskets and is up to 12 plus whatever was delivered Thursday. If you haven’t donated your basket items please do so.

Danny last week went to the passport office as all the pages of his current one are full and it expires in months (I wonder which passport - the rest are in a duffel bag in a bus locker). He waited for three hours at the Surrey office but he will get his new passport today.

Garth went to Callaghan Valley where there was lots of snow. Likely had his last day of skiing. (must have used his cane rather than poles.) He has another day of oral argument at his trial, even though yesterday was supposed to be the last one.

Michael’s son turned 4, so he actually took a day off work (for a change😜) and went to Denny’s for breakfast as his dad used to take him. Also went through a car wash, had a hair cut and to a star bucks. They decorated the house in a toy story theme for a family party. Mom was up dancing.

Elena is just back from Las Vegas where she enjoyed cirque du soleil and other musical entertainment with seven friends.

Pat has lots of appointments these days and her bowling is almost done. She had lots of fun at the Gilmore Breakfast as well.

Susan’s allergies are causing her eyes to run (claims it is not tears for Trump). The Arts Council is celebrating Richmond residents again with their Faces of Richmond project. Son Ryan is writing exams at SFU.

Bill claims that Sam’s excuse for not being at breakfast Thursday is that he was preparing for their first playoff hockey game with their new team. Also happy to see us give out our donation cheques.

Kal now has anniversary present. May have been the easter ears. Reported on a road rage incident with a white chevy pickup that seemed to involve the spouse of a couple of our members. Miles driving over a curb and John Newman over the same curb. No one apparently was injured and Kal had the best breakfast.

Peter found Tuesday intimidating being beside Max who never misses flipping the pancake perfectly. Chris B. on the other hand can creat pancakes of different shapes and sizes. If she had been there Thursday she may have flipped Peter the bird. 🖕

Marg always has fun at the breakfasts. She attended a celebration of life for a friend which was lovely. She needs to clean out the guest bedroom of rotary gifts as some guests are coming to guest.

Joyce is going to Sechelt and will be sending out an email requesting volunteers for SatA and inspirational quote. Please sign up as a birthday gift to her.

Gordon zoomed into a another rotary club for the birthday to their PDG and sang in swahili because the meeting was with the Rotary Club of Karen, Nairobi, Kenya. Not enthusiastic about his urologist confirming an in person appointment.

Sandra thanked Debbie S. for help with furniture.   Sandra will be a grandma at the end of September care of Kyle and Paige.🤰🏼

Debbie S. will be away again with a cousin from the Netherlands to the island to whale watch then to Palm Springs. Her son has set a date for the wedding July 15th. Only 10 people will be there (along with Vince Vaughn, Owen Wilson and 35 Rotarians – where did you say it was?). Wedding celebration at Gulf of Georgia cannery. Oh right!

Debbie T. was pleased with the announcement that the Richmond schools food program will receive new funding $2,372,000 for the next three years. For April 14th she has ordered 2300 little garden flags for those who passed from overdose. Debbie will send out the information for the memorial which is 11:30 at city hall.

Bob was with the principal of the school at the breakfast and commented how quiet it was until the doors opened and then the storm. Son Gavin now into the capital markets but has to get his securities licence in two weeks.

Bobby is just nice to everybody. He is taking a couple days off and his wife is off to London for a couple of weeks.

I missed the Gilmore breakfast because of an emergency baby sitting assignment of a sick grand son. I shot an 87 at Riverway and low and behold found I wallet I thought had been stolen last fall hidden deep in my golf bag. The money was still in it.

Chris M. lost her phone and wallet which was returned by a good Samaritan. Last Monday was a French festival organized by her daughter Olivia. It was extremely well run, all activities were in French and it was attended by 1,500 people. Both Chris and her son were recruited to help with the activities. Chris was a justifiably proud mom.

Max went to Whitecaps game which was good and a Canuck game which wasn’t. Also he is back from RYLA.

Debbie M. will improve her flipping skills for the next Gilmore breakfast. Granddaughter Amilia had the flu. There is hopeful news for Manuel as he will have a scan next week and if the chemo is working he will have surgery. All fingers are crossed and good wishes are being sent.

Melinda was on cereal pouring with Pat at the Gilmore breakfast which is not a popular station. It was nice to feed the kids. If you are looking for her, Melinda will be in the shop over easter.

So April 6th is international Day of Sport for Development and Peace. So this is how the day is described by the UN.

Scoring for People and the Planet

The International Day of Sport for Development and Peace (IDSDP), which takes place annually on 6 April, presents an opportunity to recognize the positive role sport and physical activity play in communities and in people’s lives across the globe.
Sport has the power to change the world; it is a fundamental right and a powerful tool to strengthen social ties and promote sustainable development and peace, as well as solidarity and respect for all.
The global theme for the International Day of Sport for Development and Peace 2023 is “Scoring for People and the Planet”. As in previous years, this overarching theme allows for IDSDP activities to broadly focus around the impact and influence of sport on sustainable development and peace.
From empowering women and girls, young people, persons with disabilities, and other marginalized groups to advancing health, sustainability, and education objectives, sport offers tremendous potential for advancing the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and for promoting peace and human rights. The United Nations has long recognized the power and universality of sport, using it to unite individuals and groups through supporting sport for development efforts, participating in events from the global to the grassroots level, and developing its own sports-related campaigns and initiatives.

RYLA South 2023 Present  by Max and Sarah
RYLA stands for Rotary Youth Leadership Awards. At RYLA South there were 70 - 80 15 – 18 year olds. They engaged in many activities including leadership, team building, ethics, conflict resolution and professional development. There were two workshops everyday. Sarah and Max were on Team Barney Army.
Every team had to come up with a community project. Their team’s project was to eliminate one time plastic use in elementary schools. The team had to consider what resources were needed, funding, and eco friendly substitutes. They had to consider what assumptions were needed and possible problems with their project.
There were outdoor activities and RYLAimpics which was based on Hunger Games theme with fun activities. Sarah confirmed that no one died.
There was a campfire with 80 – 90 people all of whom enjoyed songs and stories.
At the end of the camp there was a variety show where everyone demonstrated a talent such as juggling playing the guitar or singing. A good time was had by all.

I hate when a couple argues in public, and I missed the beginning and don't know whose side I'm on.

When someone asks what I did over the weekend, I squint and ask, "Why, what did you hear?"
